The Bundesliga promises a lot of action this year with four teams competing for the prize. Germany's strong performance at the 2006 World Cup helped improve the league in the eyes of many spectators, and it seems to have become more competitive as a result. This season, quite a few players with a good amount of quality have joined the league-coveted French winger Franck Ribery and world champion winner Luca Toni is among those who came in. Better players entering the league only raise the standard as a whole- previously the Bundesliga was considered as good as the Premier League, La Liga or Serie A; they hope to reach these heights again.

Best team

VFB Stuttgart

VFB Stuttgart came out on top in an exciting title race last season and beat the strong challenges from the teams below them. It was their first league title since 1992 - their fans will be hungry for more after experiencing the sweet taste of success. Wanting to challenge again, VFB Stuttgart brought in Turkish attacking midfielder Yildiray Basturk, Brazilian striker Ewerthon and Brazilian defender Gledson to strengthen their team. With Ewerthon and Mario Gomez in front, they have two of the best strikers in the division and will undoubtedly score many goals this year.

Schalke 04

Last season, Schalke led most of the title race before falling off the pace at the end and being beaten to the title by the VFB Stuttgart team, they finished just two points behind. This was almost as heartbreaking as their end to the 2001 season, when they were beaten to the title by Bayern Munich in the fourth minute of injury time in the final game of the season. They hope to move on from this and do better this year, and with players like Kevin Kuranyi, Gerald Asamoah and Halil Altintop in the side, they have certainly the potential to do so.

Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen finished third last season, just four points behind the champions. This year, they hope to improve and finish higher, and maybe even repeat their title victory in 2004. Werder Bremen have a strong group despite the loss of star striker Miroslav Klose to Bayern Munich and with people like Torsten Frings, Diego and Ivan Klasnic, they will always be a threat up front. Finishing is not their only strong point, as they are also competent defensively - Per Mertesacker and goalkeeper Tim Wiese help them stay strong in the back.

Bayern Munich

Last year, Bayern Munich finished fourth and therefore had to play in the UEFA Cup at a lower level - they have spent a lot of money to ensure that this does not happen again. Bayern spent around seventy million euros on the transfer market, bringing in players such as Ribery, Toni, Miroslav Klose and Ze Roberto - all documented artists at the top level of the game. This season, they look set to win the UEFA Cup as well as the league title they underperformed last season. As experienced manager Ottmar Hitzfeld is extending his contract at the club, it is almost impossible that Bayern will go without a major trophy this year, as they did last time.
