An integral part of dentistry is the application of local anesthesia, sedation, and general anesthesia. Anxiety and pain management can be defined as applying the prevention and treatment of preoperative, surgical, and postoperative patient anxiety and pain of different physical, chemical, and psychological modalities to allow dental treatment to proceed safely and efficiently. It covers all dentistry fields and, as such, is one of the essential components of dental education. These recommendations aim to provide instruction to dentists to teach pain management, which sedation and can be extended from predoctoral through continuing education at all dental education stages. They are designed to teach initial pain management competency and minimum to mild methods of sedation. These Recommendations acknowledge that through a combination of training and experience, many dentists have gained a high degree of expertise in the use of anxiety and pain management strategies. This is believed to have helped these teachers and practitioners to satisfy the professional requirements outlined in this text. It is not Guidance's intention to fit any curriculum into the same rigid mold of education. This is neither ideal nor probable. Innovation and improvement must still have room. However, they include a fair indicator of curriculum acceptability, accessible to both predoctoral and continuing education organizations and agencies. For this you can avail our Sedation certification courses.

The fear and pain management curriculum is a series of instructional activities that the predoctoral program will expand for many years. As defined in these Guidelines, dental schools whose purpose is to make predoctoral students gain expertise in techniques such as local anesthesia and nitrous oxide inhalation and minimal sedation must satisfy all of the aims, prerequisites, didactic content, clinical experience, faculty, and facilities.

Both psychiatric and pharmacological modalities should be used in procedures to manage anxiety and pain in dentistry. Simple coping methods for the nervous patient and more systematic behavioral techniques to manage discomfort should be used in therapeutic interventions. Local anesthetics and sedatives, analgesics, and other user agents should be used in pharmacological techniques. Dentists should study the signs and procedures for enteral, parenteral, and inhalational medication administration as local anesthesia supplements. The predoctoral program, including limited to mild sedation, should include Guidance, exposure, and practice with anxiety and pain management. The predoctoral program must also have the skills and ability to help students identify and handle any emergencies that might occur due to therapy.
