Title: Very good explanations and awesome Case Studies

Review: I would give this book 4.5 stars.
If you are looking to improve your understanding and application of regression, then you should look no further.
The book successfully explains regression from the very basic statistics to complex non-linear regression models.
What sets this book apart, in my opinion are the 7 Case Studies. They are excellent in providing the type of questions regression can answer and the details in the answers are the best explanations of regression I have ever read.
The book comes with a CD that has all the data in the Cases and examples & problems.
All the data comes in SPSS, MINITAB, Text, SAS, RDATA, and CSV formats. The book's statistical outputs, however, are mostly written in MiniTab. So I doubly recommend this book who are familiar or wants to be familiar with Minitab.
I do not recommend this as the first book on statistics. But I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn regression, which should be the vast majority of the science, engineering, and PhD students.
Pros:
1)Lucid explanations of basic to complex regression concepts.
2)Awesome Case Studies (7 of them).
3)Fairly comprehensive
Cons:
1)Some of the equations were non-standard. For example the author uses SSxx or SSxy. I interpreted those as Var(X) or Var(X+Y). It turns out, they were not.
2)The book hardly covers the confidence interval of the error term and how to obtain the probability of Y|X.

Title: Great textbook with helpful examples

Review: I am currently using this book in my regression analysis class in college. So far we have covered through Chapter 5, and the book has been helpful, and actually a fairly easy read. For our class we are using R, and the cd in the back of the book allows us to read the data off of the cd, and use it with R. My last statistics class used Design and Analysis of Experiments 8th edition, and to me, this book was a lot more helpful when trying to read and comprehend the material on my own. I've been able to read ahead without feeling like I was getting lost or confused at all. The book also does a great job of referencing problems that have already been done, and applying new techniques to them. For example, you might do a problem early in Chapter 3, then later on you learn confidence intervals for each parameter in the problem, and later on you will have a question asking you to calculate those CI's and interpret them for your previous problem. It is a great way to get insight into what is going on, and really helped me when I was working these problems out. I've only done 2 of the case studies so far, but they have been extremely helpful.
I will make sure to update this post after I have finished the course. We will be covering through Chapter 9.

Title: Good for both self-study and as a course text

Review: I had this as a textbook for a course on data analysis, and found it to have good coverage when using it for the course. Recently, I've started working through the text again, more slowly and in more detail. I'm finding it to be really good for self-study. The explanations are clear, the sequence of topics is intutive, and the approach of using the same simple data set for the initial explanation of each newly introduced concept is helpful from a "continuity" standpoint.
I'm using the Kindle version of the text. Because I find myself jumping back and forth a lot throughout the text -- to revisit previous concepts, check answers in the solution section, etc. -- the print copy probably would have been a better choice. That said, I'm able to get by with the Kindle version.

Title: How to find the data sets

Review: Just as a heads up, the kindle version doesn't come with the data cd, but if you look in the preface of the book, on page X, there's a link to the pearson higher ed dataset website. The link, when I click on it, doesn't function, because it accidentally includes the next word from the text in the link. So, just click on the link, but then click on the URL in your browser and delete "-contain" from the end. Or, just type in the website of pearsonhighered (com) /datasets. Sorry for being so cryptic, but Amazon won't let you post URLs in product reviews.

Title: Better than most

Review: This is honestly one of the better text books I've used. I rented this, and when it was time to send it back I was hesitant because I really wanted to keep it, but it does have a pretty steep price tag. I'm presently trying to find a more reasonably-priced book that has similar content, especially for the chapters on regression model diagnostics.

Review: I needed to purchase this book for my intermediate class. I am so glad that I bought here because I ended up saving more than half of what I would of spend at my school's bookstore. Best of all, the book is in good condition and the disc is brand new as well. So far, I haven't had any problems with the disc. If you're looking in saving money on books, I strongly recommend this purchase.

Review: Overall I think this book is very good at explaining issues in basic regression analysis. However, it had several topics listed in the table of contents (such as ridge regression and others) that were discussed at a topical level and did not go deep enough for what I hoped for. The author stated that detailed discussion of several of these techniques were beyond the scope of the book. Nevertheless, the book does a good job within its scope.

Review: I got this e-book for my summer class. Good thing: delivery. You get it in seconds. Cons: you dont get any of the data or other information contained in the book cd. Thats bad because many problems are solved using this data. Other not very nice thing to say you must have a kindle fire.... thats not nice at all, especially when this book is 99% black and white.
The book is really good. Amazons kindle version not that much... I recomend getting a used one instead, at least when it comes to stats.
