What transpires at the end of the 2005 dystopian political drama, V for Vendetta? Directed by James McTeigue and penned by the Wachowskis, V for Vendetta is set in an alternate future that revolves around a Nordic neo-fascist totalitarian regime and the figure of V (Hugo Weaving), a masked anarchist who wishes to propel the United Kingdom into the throes of revolutionary change.
An allegory of government-fueled oppression and state tyranny, V for Vendetta is set in 2020, where the world is in turmoil like never before, as a pandemic ravages Europe and all minority groups, including atheists and Jews, are deemed as “undesirables”, while being hunted, and executed. On November 4, V, who always wears a Guy Fawkes mask, saves TV reporter Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman) from assault by the state’s secret police, who then witnesses V’s plan in action, which involves the demolition of the Old Bailey, amid fireworks and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, written to commemorate Napoleon’s retreat from Moscow. Meanwhile, Inspector Finch (Stephen Rea) of Scotland Yard leads the search for the masked vigilante V and aims to put a stop to his plans rooted in rebellion.
