Overview
Confessio Amantis or The Lovers Confession is a 33,000-line Middle-English poem by John Gower. The plot is based on the confession made by an aging lover to the chaplain of Venus. This confession works as a frame story for a collection of shorter narrative poems. As it is mentioned in the prologue, the work was composed on the commission of Richard II.
