Phantom 3 standard
(Largest drone, comes with controller)

From DJI.com it’s $640.00 Canadian (USD $499), but includes shipping and taxes.

Spark (smallest drone, easy to fly!)

From DJI.com it’s $512.16 (USD $399) without a controller. Cheaper than Amazon, since it includes taxes and shipping. But for $20-30 more on Amazon, you can get a nice case with it, and extra propellors

Spark with controller: From DJI.com it’s $640.00 Canadian (USD $499) with the controller. A bit more on Amazon, with a nice case, and more propellors.

Yuneec Breeze is CAD $399.00. no controller. The software isn’t the best. But it’s a much cheaper than the DJI ones.

I know someone who has one in Newfoundland, and it's decent, probably comparable to the Spark in range, features, and flight time. But the software's not as good (ie: the remote mission thing)

I think the Phantom 3 is the best one, but it’s also the most expensive.

The spark is slightly cheaper, so that’s an option too, but it’s not as durable as the Phantom 3, but it’s smaller, which might be better for him? — maybe get the Spark now, and then get him the controller later (birthday, etc).

The DJI ones are nice because you can program them to fly further and do “missions” even when you’re out of range, etc.

Anyway, let me know if I can help in any way!
