I was able to drop of my bag early in the morning when I arrived in the city, even though I was not able to check in until 23:00 after my meetings. The bed was comfortable and the room was well supplied with drinks and toiletries. We had a very pleasant stay in Greifswald. The room was large, very clean with complimentary mini bar! Very helpful staff at the front desk that could speak English. The hotel is within walking distance from the University and there is a bus station very close by that takes 10 minutes to central Greifswald. Usual Mercure Decor, Very clean. Car park open to anyone, but on a new development site so not near housing. Quite a way from the town centre, so a good walk or taxi if you want to eat elsewhere. Macdonalds 100m away excepted! Breakfast expensive we thought so did not bother. Good well stocked bar with friendly and competant staff. Close to good beaches and seaside. To Accor's credit they've managed to 'make a silk purse out of a sow's ear' in this respect. The hotel is quiet, clean, with friendly English-speaking staff, and furnished in a contemporary style. The quality of accommodation for the price is very good, which is maybe due to it's location an an office park district. That said, Greifswald itself an historic old Hanseatic town with a university and beautifully preserved main square and Altstadt is only one stop 5 mins away by train from the nearby Süd Bahnhof, or 20 mins by bus from the stop opposite the station. The hotel has bikes for hire, and we used these one day for a very pleasant ride around 5km to the old fishing village of Wieck, where we had a wonderful lunch at a waterside seafood restaurant. This hotel is perfect for those on a budget especilally families who are prepared to compromise on a central location in exchange for reasonable prices. It also makes a good base for day trips to the nearby islands of Usedom and Rügen both easily reached by train or car , where hotels are far pricier in high season. My family and I had a very pleasant stay here July 2013. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful with any problems we had. Rooms were good and beds very comfortable. Free minibar was a pleasant extra. Free wifi very fast. Breakfast selection was good as you'd expect not as good as Novotels, which are higher up the Accor range and restaurant staff very good. No air conditioning in rooms, so we had to leave windows open during exceptionally hot nights and we heard early-morning deliveries. Overall, a very pleasant stay in Greifswald.
