Title: a thorough and practical study guide

Review: I've been tutoring the ISEE for over 10 years, and this year I wanted to try out a few of the newer guides on Amazon. This book is excellent, as are the other ISEE guides by the same company. There are not a lot of official ISEE materials released by the ERB, so a lot of test-prep companies create questions based on their best guess of what will appear on the test. This book, like the Tutorverse books, takes most of its material from the one official released test on the ERB's website. However, the authors of this book have clearly taken the time to anticipate additional material that might be on a real test, even if it doesn't show up on the released test. For example, there is a detailed section on functions - composite functions, functions and tables, graphing functions, etc - that I have not seen in other guides, but I have had students tell me after taking the real test that there were functions questions that they did not know how to do. The section on imaginary numbers and sequences are both much more detailed than they are in other books, as well.
While this guide does not have as many practice questions as the Tutorverse book, it makes up for it by having detailed explanations for the most common question types on the math sections, as well as two practice tests that very closely mimic the released test. There is an answer key for scoring these two tests, as well as detailed answer explanations. There are a few minor errors in the book, but whatever issues the other reviewer mentioned have been fixed. I should note that every guide, including those from major companies like Princeton Review and Kaplan, have mistakes throughout.

Title: A solid guide to preparing for the Upper Level ISEE

Review: I purchased this book and the Primary 4 book for my sons. Based on what I've seen so far, both books are well-designed and should be very helpful in our preparation. The sections on test-specific question types, in particular, are thoughtfully prepared and seem very closely correlated with the questions that I've seen on the practice tests released by the ERB. There are two QR and two MA tests included in this book, and they mimic the practice tests very closely.
The math fundamentals content is the standard material you'd find in pretty much every test prep book. While there are a few minor errors here and there, I found that to be the case in the Princeton Review and Kaplan books that my older son used for the SAT - I think there will always be a few. It doesn't detract from the overall quality of the content.

Review: This book is good! I do wish there was a reading and verbal section though (hence the 4 starts), but the math material is useful. It does a better job than other books of teaching kids how to identify specific question types. I also would've given 5 stars if there were even more practice questions, but the practice tests at the end were so helpful!

Review: We just finished taking the ISEE to get into 9th grade and this book was extremely helpful. It is exceptionally good at explaining the concepts, so good, in fact, that I'm keeping it a resource. The not as good is that it is organized in a confusing manner and doesn't have a lot of practice problems. I'm not complaining, however, since it covered everything so well and was ultimately a lifesaver.

Title: Tons of useful practice material for the ISEE

Review: I've been tutoring this test for eleven years, and an issue I always run into is a lack of good, level-appropriate practice material for the specific math question types on the ISEE. This book breaks down both the strategies and the problem types clearly, and provides a ton of practice material for tackling all of the math subject matter. The practice sections in the back of the book are a great tool for applying the knowledge under timed conditions. I hope Manhattan Tutors comes out with guides for other levels of the ISEE soon!

Title: Riddled with major errors

Review: I purchased the 2019 version to help my daughter prepare for the Upper-Level ISEE. We are severely disappointed at the incompetence with which this version was assembled. Very early on, we discovered that an entire answer key had been omitted from one of the practice sections. I emailed the company and received a PDF version of the answer key. We continued to work through the book. My husband (who has a math background) and I began to notice that some of the answers in the different section keys were incorrect. Then today, we realized that an entire section--43 pages worth--was duplicated! I've emailed the company again to notify them of this gross error, but I cannot recommend this book at all. It appears to have been assembled without any editing whatsoever. When you're trying to prepare for a high-stakes test like the ISEE, you must have confidence in your study guides. I recommend shopping around for a more trustworthy company.

Review: Very helpful book. As a tutor, I've found that other prep books don't address the specific math question types found on the ISEE. This book, however, contains an entire chapter on those questions, and helps students apply their math fundamentals to the trickier questions found on the test. There is also a section that has students identify question types.
