Pacino,Ricky Roma the hot shot. In college we used to watch this film over and over and rewind the speech 10 times over. A lot of the film takes place in shrouded or even nighttime environments, and while shadow definition is occasionally a bit lacking, detail levels are surprisingly high, at least given the dark overall ambience.

Roma does a fine job playing on Lingk's insecurities. Maybe it's because the film is composed of almost nothing butdialogue. I've read the comments about the amount of profanity in this movie.. He is so desperate he resorts to the cheesiest, phoniest, approaches. Times are tough in a Chicago real-estate office; the salesmen Shelley Levene, Ricky Roma, Dave Moss, and George Aaronow are given a strong incentive by Blake to succeed in a sales contest. But at least he doesn't live off of door-to-door sales. Red-leads and dead-leads are to blame for life's outcomes. This movie is a veritable who's who of acting, with Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin, Jonathan Pryce - not to mention a then-relatively-unknwon Kevin Spacey.
