I have suffered with fear of speaking in front of people all my life. When I know there is something coming up where I have to speak in front of people I try to find excuses not to attend. Have missed promotions because I have this terrible fear. I have done presentations before small groups and each time I'm like a wreck, heart pounding, shaky voice, blushing, sweating, it's so embarrassing, afterwards I feel dejected and a failure and feel people are laughing at me. I imagine all the ones I know in the audience look at me as childish and a wimp. Last week I went to my doctor and was prescribed propranolol, I have to stand up in front of a lot of peoole this week and I'm in bits. I took tablets this evening to see if there is an improvement, I don't notice anything yet and constantly the worry and fear is on mind every day. I hope I will be ok on the night. I know there is an old post on this topic, but how are you all getting on, is propranolol working for you all. I was never able to pin point why I hated it so much, considering I am a confident and outgoing person for the most part. By time my junior year of high school came around, I had experienced physical symptoms DURING a presentation. I went from having a shaky voice, to a loss of voice to the point where I could literally get NO words out. I could no longer handle sitting in class with a rapid heartbeat, anticipating even a three minute casual group presentation. She prescribed me 40 mg of Propanolol to take one hour before public speaking. However, the next presentation I gave was an absoulute miracle. I had several days before, and even a little while I was waiting for my turn to present but not nearly as much as I would've had without the pill. I walked up to the front of the class and began speaking as if I was talking to myself. I felt so damn good about myself after putting complete trust into propanolol. Don't worry if you are feeling nervous prior to the presentation, I have been taking propanolol for three years now I only take it when I have to give a presentation and every single time it has worked for me. I still get nervous before, and fear that something will go wrong during a presentation; however, every single time I prove myself wrong because it works so amazingly. Public speaking will ALWAYS be a phobia of mine, but with propanolol I know I can get through it so much easier. I wish you the best of luck, and I completely understand how nervous you are. With that being said, give propanolol a chance and allow it to work it's magic! Thanks emilyy98 for your reply, I will take on board your advice. I have a couple of days to go and it's like waiting for the firing squad. I took some pills last evevening but I didn't notice anything different. My biggest fear is the pounding heart and shaky and making a fool of myself. It wouldn't be the first time. I have this condition for so long that I feel it's impossible to change. It has always held me back. I'm praying the pills will work for me this time.
