Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
A light double pushchair makes it easy to move around, especially for families with children of different age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down steps.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom with adjustable reclining, as well as massive UPF 50+ canopy with windows that peek out. It also comes with an expanding frame width to accommodate an additional car seat or a second passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of light double pushchairs we've tested are side-by-side designs and they're generally best for kids who can sit up on their own, as these models aren't equipped with car seat integration. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent choices. They offer recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a large canopy, and padded 5-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to maneuver despite their larger footprint and are perfect for parents who are worried about fitting through doorways.
The Cybex Duet is a little different because its clever frame expands widthways to add another seat, which makes it lighter than most other side-by-side pushchairs available. It can be pushed through standard doorways and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It can also be used as a jogger, which is ideal if you plan to use it with an infant car seat or baby carrier.
Another fantastic side-by-side light double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, that offers more customization with a modular frame. It's a clever design that lets you convert it into a single buggy or a double by adding 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even accommodate twins). It's an outstandingly practical choice for families with growing children and the UPPAbaby makes one of the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers on the market.
Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. https://www.pushchairsandprams.uk/categories/double-pushchairs can be used as a single or a double with the addition of two carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers were awed by the sleek and easy it was to use even when stuffed with kids.
Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't foolproof, though -- if your children are at the same age or stage they may still fight over who gets to ride in which seat. If they're at different heights, then the tandem model could be the best option for them, since it allows them to face eachother.
Tandem
While side-by-side models may be more suitable for siblings of the same age, tandem lightweight double pushchairs have their own charms. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some even have convertible seats or an additional carrycot that is located in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easy to get in and out of, although their baskets tend to be smaller than those on single buggies. Many also feature more generously big canopies with windows that peek out as well as a cup holder for parents and cushioned leg cushions for the little ones.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. The fabric is a bit less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. However, it still looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is impressive. While it requires some practice, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". It's not possible to fold it with the carrycot attached however, the mechanism for attaching and taking it off it is easy and quick.
Tandem lightweight double strollers will typically have tighter turning capabilities than side-by-side models. However, they could be difficult to drive on uneven surfaces or curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put stress on your back.
A convertible double buggy is an additional option. It is initially an individual, but you can add adapters to make it a double. It can have a second seat or carrycot in front or children can be seated side-by-side. Some of them also have the option of incorporating buggy boards, which could help older children keep up with younger siblings.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a great example of a convertible, as it can also convert into a twin pram through the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that provide a flat space for newborns. They can be joined or placed on top of each other. You can also use the car seat that came with the pushchair if it is compatible. These buggies for dual-use are made of quality materials and can last for a long time without showing any wear. This means they have an excellent resale value.
Single-to-Double
This lightweight double buggy was designed for families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade from an individual-stroller. It can be transformed into a jogger with kits that include air-filled tires and all-wheel suspension. It is also a good option for twins or children of different ages, and as a triple tandem, it's able to be able to handle the rough terrain. It's an excellent choice for parents who want a chic design as sleek as a single and comes in different fabric colours.
This iCandy model is easy to fold using a one-handed system. It's heavier than other single-to double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's mobile even with two toddlers and the carrycot.
The seat can be used parent-facing, and you can also buy add-ons for this stroller, such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each) which are great for babies. Our test panel found that the seats to be comfortable for toddlers, with good headrests and lumbar support. And there are a variety of options for recline and recline, with the front seat being adjustable to different positions, and the rear seat having a recline option.
The main drawback to this kind of buggy is that it is generally larger overall than doubles that are side-by-side and makes it difficult to get through doorways and can be difficult to maneuver around kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension are generally able to perform well in dealing with pavements and the fact that they're usually lighter than the side-by-sides, means you still have a decent amount of storage space. It's important to remember that strollers of this type aren't as efficient in getting through narrow aisles in supermarkets and can struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller around on a narrow curved path, it can be a hassle. Some are easier to turn than other, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The best thing about convertible double pushchairs is the ability to adapt to the changing family needs. They often start out as single buggies, but include adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot or (in some instances) the car seat to the frame. Some even convert to a single when your child gets older and starts to walk or prefers to ride on buggy boards.
One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this stylish tri-fold model can hold children up to 40 lbs each. It comes with a handy basket in between the seats to store things. The home testers loved the spacious canopy that has windows that can be seen from the outside with multi-position reclining seats as well as front and rear suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain. It also has an easy-to-use cup holder for parents as well as an ample, easily accessible basket. They also noted that the backs of the bags have small pockets which are just big enough to fit phones and keys.

This multi-functional tandem is a top choice from our home testers due to its maneuverability and large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats in the parent-facing position. It is a breeze to maneuver due to its light weight (about the weight of a few single pushchairs). Many have praised the clever method of attaching the second seat or riding board to the back. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant car seats and carriers from multiple brands, including those that don't normally fit in other double buggies.
