1. Make sure you are using latest firmware (in most cases you are good to go if you have lastest stock ROM)

2. Unlock bootloader - https://www.getdroidtips.com/unlock-bootloader-moto-x4/
after all steps done - reboot bootloader with command: fastboot reboot bootloader

3. Download lastest twrp image - https://eu.dl.twrp.me/payton/
boot it with command: fastboot boot /path/to/imagefilename.img

4. Backup persist/efs partitons:

5. Download and flash copy-partitions zip - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oiry9UfP2tf-5A6nQBF7pn2t2eSGKt0F/view (put in on sdcard to direct install or select advanced/adb sideload in twrp, and use command: adb sideload /path/to/zip)

6. From twrp home screen press Wipe -> Format data, after complete - return
to twrp home screen and press reboot -> bootloader
type command: fastboot -w
then fastboot boot recovery again (see step 3)

7. Download and put ROM zip on sdcard to flash it with twrp directly or use adb sideload (as step 5, but replace with /path/to/rom.zip). Flash twrp installer zip optionally (if you want to keep twrp)

8. (Optional) To flash magisk - let the system boot at least once and then reboot phone to bootloader, boot recovery and install or adb sideload latest magisk apk

Updating:
Update through the OTA app in settings
or
Download the ROM zip from PixelExperience website and flash it manually in TWRP or PE recovery
