The Kerem Tunnel allows for a an experience that is unique in terms of hiking and riding.

The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest bicycle tunnel, has been inaugurated as part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which circles the capital.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entrance is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be located in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, and many cyclists.

Jerusalem was once popular tourist destination because of its historic past. Elkin said that, nowadays along with its historical treasures the tunnel project encompasses modern day tourism. "The launch of the tunnel project is yet another step in the development of Jerusalem as an attractive tourist destination for all types of tourists in Israel and all over the world."

Elkin his ministry, which spearheaded the project along with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry had invested thousands of shekels every year in Jerusalem's tourist development as well as in creating new attractions and ventures that will connect the magnificent historical past and future of Jerusalem. In the late 1990s, in the 1990s, Kerem Tunnel was excavated to transfer the main sewer line of Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now utilized as an infrastructure tunnel and is also home to the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem by the Mekorot water company.
