Counter Strike New Revealed
After months of rumors, Valve has finally revealed Counter Strike new. It's a major update to CS:GO which will bring it onto the Source 2 engine.
It also includes sub-tick server updates as well as responsive smoke grenades. It's got a lot of casual gamers going wild but it looks like an enormous upgrade for regular players.
Smokes
Counter Strike New is getting a major update that will completely change the method of using smokes in the game. The changes, which are dubbed responsive smokes, will be an important game changer. Smokes will now expand to fill in spaces naturally and then move around objects on the map. They will also respond to the lighting in the games, making them appear more realistic. In addition to these new features, smokes will now be capable of interfacing with gameplay events and will offer new tactical possibilities. A new video reveals one of the game's biggest under-the-hood improvements, known as sub-tick updates.
Instead of a 64-tick update every millisecond CS:GO can now use sub-ticks, or as Valve calls it, "micro ticks", to communicate with servers. Each of these tiny intervals of time will be recorded by the client and sent to the server, which will then transmit the latest game state to players. The servers will now know exactly moment that you shot your shot, jumped, peeked and other inputs.
While a minute-long video is not enough to cover everything the video explains that each piece of information sent by a client has an associated timestamp, and that the server will gather all information from all players in chronological order before sending it back. According to the video it is believed that a CS: GO server will be able to send up to twice as much data as a 64-tick server.
That means that if the game's tick speed increases to 128 Hz, it will be able to process your commands instantly and consistently. Micro-tick updates also decrease input lag, making sure that the server responds to your commands without delays or glitches.
Valve's technological improvements to the game are just the beginning. The company is working on dynamic smoke and particle systems to improve how smoke interacts with the surrounding, and it's upgrading all of the maps with high-resolution lighting, textures and models. Source 2 tools and features will be used to update all CS Cosmetics and weapons.
Maps
The next update for Counter Strike New brings new maps and a few classics with facelifts. These updates are being tested in an unspecified beta. The first set includes an upgrade and touchstone maps which will not undergo significant changes to gameplay, while other maps have been completely renovated or redesigned with the help of the new Source 2 Tools.
Overpass is one of the maps that has been reworked in order to benefit from the new engine's unified light system. The map's eerie underground has been flooded with light to make it more spacious and less crowded. In addition smoke grenades are now able to expand dynamically to fill spaces and interact with the new light.
