Felix Carver carries the ghosts of magicians in his blood. He can communicate with them and use the magical abilities they wielded against monsters when they were alive. They have no idea who they can trust, but they do know who they can't: Ernest Abernathy, who stole a powerful wand from Mason's parents. Felix, Mason, and Arisa must construct a plan to steal back the wand without help. If their plan fails, Ernest could turn the Guardians against them. If they succeed, they'll have one more weapon in the fight against a looming enemy.
