It follows the unhappy teenager Eric Draven and his drug-addled journey to failure, updating the setting to the present day and offering a new perspective on the tale of woe of its protagonist. Currently a patient at a state juvenile criminal rehabilitation center, Eric's rugged, heavily tattooed, slender physique belies how small he feels on the inside. Vincent Roeg, the cunning and nasty tycoon, finances Shelly, an aspiring club singer and drug addict with a lot of tattoos. He has an agreement with the Devil to succeed, and he won't allow anything stand in his way. After being apprehended by the authorities for drug possession, Shelly checks herself into the same recovery center as Eric.
